About message receipts

Microsoft Office Outlook Web Access allows you to confirm the receipt of a message you have sent. This can be done with new messages, or when you reply to or forward another person's message.

When you request a message receipt, you will receive a notification in your Inbox when your message was delivered and when it was opened by the recipient.

When you have sent a message that contains a receipt request, you will receive one or both of the following in your Inbox, depending on your selections:

  • Delivered: <subject>, where <subject> is the subject of the message you sent. To see the date and time that the recipient received the message, double-click the receipt.
  • Read: <subject>, where <subject> is the subject of the message you sent. To see the date and time that the recipient opened the message, double-click the receipt.
